As National Recycling Week kicks off, we’re thrilled to spotlight our commitment to responsible recycling and bring you the latest from Pharmacycle. This month, we’re excited to showcase our mini-series, Journey of a Blister Pack, taking you behind the scenes of blister pack recycling from drop-off to transformation.
We’re also proud to announce our national rollout with Chemist Warehouse and My Chemist. Plus, we’re celebrating big achievements with National Pharmacies and Viatris, who recently received the Health Industry Hub ‘Sustainability Champion’ award for their committment to sustainability.
On the ground, we had the pleasure of hosting local Members of Parliament and council representatives at our Sydney processing facility, giving them an exclusive look at the careful check-in, quality control, and separation process for blister packs.
Finally, don’t miss our Meet the Team feature this month, spotlighting Amy, our Customer Relations Manager, whose passion for sustainability shines both at work and at home!
Thanks to our incredible Pharmacycle community, we’ve now recycled more than 40 million blister packs since we began! This achievement is a powerful reminder of what we can accomplish together, but we’re not stopping here. We’ve set an ambitious target to recycle 50 million blister packs this financial year alone, and with the continued expansion of our collection network, we’re well on our way to making it happen. Let’s keep the momentum going to reach this milestone and keep blister packs out of landfill for good!
In celebration of National Recycling Week, where this year’s theme is, Join the Cycle, we created a new mini-series, showcasing the journey of blister packs when recycled with Pharmacycle.
This series highlights each step of the recycling process, from drop-off to repurposing, and explores how recycling blister packs contributes to a circular economy.
Through real stories and behind-the-scenes insights, we invite everyone to see the impact of joining the cycle and keeping valuable materials in use.
We’re thrilled to announce that Pharmacycle, in partnership with Chemist Warehouse and Kenvue (makers of CODRAL®), has launched Australia’s largest blister pack recycling inititiative nationwide! After a successful trial last year, CODRAL®-branded Pharmacycle bins are now available in Chemist Warehouse and My Chemist pharmacies across the country, making it easier for customers to recycle empty blister packs during National Recycling Week and beyond.
This initiative keeps all collected materials in Australia, where the aluminium and plastic are repurposed locally into products like outdoor decking and fencing—helping to support a more circular economy. We’re proud to work with Chemist Warehouse and Kenvue to bring convenient recycling options to more communities, ensuring blister packs are given a valuable second life. Together, we’re building a more sustainable future, one blister pack at a time.
A heartfelt congratulations from the entire Pharmacycle team to National Pharmacies and Viatris for winning the Health Industry Hub ‘Sustainability Champion’ award.
Since joining Pharmacycle in November 2022, National Pharmacies has diverted over 9.7 million blister packs from landfill—a remarkable accomplishment that truly highlights their commitment to sustainability.
As one of the early leaders in blister pack recycling, National Pharmacies has demonstrated outstanding dedication to reducing waste and promoting environmental responsibility. This award is a well-deserved recognition of their proactive leadership and commitment to a sustainable future.
We had the pleasure of hosting local Members of Parliament and representatives from Sydney Metropolitan Councils at our Sydney processing facility.
Our guests experienced a behind-the-scenes look at the blister pack recycling process, from check-in and quality control to the intricate separation of materials. This tour offered a first-hand view of how Pharmacycle ensures each blister pack is carefully processed to support a circular economy, keeping valuable materials in use and out of landfill.
It was an exciting opportunity to share our commitment to sustainable recycling with community leaders dedicated to environmental sustainability.
