Four Years of Transforming Blister Pack Recycling in Australia

Since our inception in 2022, Pharmacycle has been on a singular mission: to remove and recycle every single medicine blister pack in Australia. As we celebrate our 4th anniversary in June 2026, we look back at a timeline defined by community action, innovative partnerships, and staggering environmental impact.

The Impact Timeline

Highlighting Our Major Achievements

Reaching 150 Million Recycled Packs

In May 2026, we reached a massive milestone of 150 million blister packs collected and recycled. This achievement is built on thousands of small, daily actions by Australians choosing to keep valuable materials like aluminium and plastic out of our finite landfill systems.

Expanding the Drop-Off Network

Accessibility is key to successful recycling. We have grown our network to over 1,000 free drop-off locations across Australia. This expanded network brings responsible recycling closer to more households than ever before.

Powering Change Through Partnerships

  • Blooms The Chemist: Our first major chain partner has now recycled 25 million blister packs through their national network.
  • Chemist Warehouse: In early 2026, Chemist Warehouse reached its own milestone of 50 million blister packs diverted from landfill.

Beyond Recycling: Circular Innovation

We don't just collect waste; we transform it. Through our partnership with Think Fencing, materials collected through Pharmacycle are repurposed into One Deck decking boards, which consist of 30% recycled blister pack content. Through our partnership with Weston Aluminium, the aluminium powder is turned into pucks used in steel manufacturing. These outputs provide a tangible second life for what was once considered unrecyclable waste.

Looking Ahead

As we enter our fifth year, we are preparing for our second annual National Blister Pack Recycling Day on July 25. Following the success of the inaugural event, which saw 5,000 packs recycled in a single day, we aim to continue scaling our impact and expanding opportunities for circularity.

Thank you to every recycler, pharmacy team, and community leader who has been part of this four-year journey. Together, let’s keep removing each and every blister from landfill, one pack at a time.
